We know what you're thinking, this is a cute page and all, but embellishments like the gear and arrow are expensive. And you're right; scrapbooking is not an inexpensive hobby. Sometimes we wish that, say, running was our hobby because it's cheap and the satisfaction is fabulous. (You know, a tight bum and all that jazz.) But, alas, we're addicted to scrapbooking (and our bum and wallet can attest to it! Ha.) But realize when you buy a package of embellishments that they'll go very far if you use them on several layouts. I believe we paid about $5 for this package of gears and arrows, and it had several dozen pieces in it. Plus, if you have a friend or sibling who likes to scrapbook you can split the cost and the materials. It's fun to get together and bounce ideas around, too!

This is a GREAT layout for those random photos - you know, the ones of the kids making silly faces while they bounce from couch cushion to couch cushion! It's hard to believe that the holidays are behind us. Time goes SO fast! (Although I think having little ones in the house makes it speed by. Watching them grow a bit every day can make you feel old in no time!) Isn't this a great layout? It's perfect no matter what holiday you recently celebrated; doesn't everybody eat candy canes?! This is some of that prepatterned paper that can seem difficult to use but really isn't. Most of the time this paper is best designed with one photo in mind, as we did here. Then take the rest of the space and embellish it; we used letters with pop dots and lots of rhinestones. And ta da! You have a special, one-of-a-kind layout, even if it was prepatterned.

This paper is absolutely gorgeous, but if we weren't careful this layout could have turned out overly busy and distracting. The answer? Take a bit of extra time and hand-cut the most gorgeous pieces of the embellished paper! This way we were able to have a solid background but still embellish the layout with some of our more gorgeous paper. Elaina even went a step further by adding rhinestones to the glittered paper; there's always room for more sparkle!

It was inevitable that when we saw this shoe embellishment it would be going on a scrapbook page! Aren't they CUTE? Paired with this beautiful paper the layout just screamed wedding, so that's what it became. Black, white and red is a very popular wedding combo, and done right it can be very classy. Everybody has tons of wedding photos, and of course you can't order them all for your album so a dedicated wedding scrapbook is a great place to collect snapshots from friends!

It doesn't take much to make a holiday layout look fabulous. There are TONS of papers to choose from, and they almost all go well together! Be sure to mix and match them. But the fun part really comes in the embellishing. On this page Elaina went for HUGE letters and HUGE embellishments. You don't want your embellishments to compete with your photos, though, so use them sparingly. The two glittery snowflakes she used here are just enough to set off the pages!

Friendship Tree

When I first saw this page I absolutely loved it. Elaina is responsible for this adorable tree, which is one of the cutest things I've ever seen. Sure - it would have been easy to head to the scrapbook-supply shop and buy a tree embellishment, but she thought outside of the box and flexed her creative mucles on this one! She used the Cricut to cut out the circles then she inked the edges of each one to give them some depth. At first the "leaves" didn't go off the edge of the page, but it was my idea to add them to the edge them cut them to fit. I think doing so gives the eye the illusion that the tree is fuller and goes beyond the page. So that was the second time we thought outside of the box; the edges of the paper don't have to limit your creativity!

This paper has to be some of the most popular in our etsy shop. Every layout we make with it sells quickly! Thus, we've used every scrap, which is a great way to stretch your supplies. As you can see, we took a small 2.5 x 4-inch piece and turned it into an inexpensive yet beautiful embellishment. At the bottom of the layout we used rhinestones to help the poppies ... pop! Sometimes we disagree over what is trash and what is scrap so most of our paper odds and ends end up in an old shoebox. Elaina is often right that there is treasure in that so-called trash! Scrapbooking can be an expensive hobby, but if you use your supplies right you can get a lot of bang for your buck.

Two things make this layout stand out: the words and the embellishments.

The words aren't embellishments you can buy - they're paper! If you have a paper you love, and you don't want to cover it with photos, consider piecing it and making your own embellishments. A little ink, some card stock and a few pop dots can make anything more special! The other great thing about this page are the embellishments - look at those booties! Couldn't you just die? It seems that there is a movement away from the more fancy embellishments you can buy. But we think that's silly. Your style can still shine even if you use something purchased. Don't Elaina's choices make this page just sing? Buy carefully and buy what you love!

Tranquil

This page is just what it says: tranquil. Green is so calming, and this gorgeous layout evokes several tranquil moments for me: a grandparent reading to a child; a picture of a beautiful spring garden; the first snow of the year; a landscape shot from a trip to Europe.

We do a lot of one-page layouts because let's face it - sometimes you just have that one perfect picture to scrapbook! So why not print it larger and give it a home better than a simple frame? If you scrapbook it, it will be loved and cherished forever. As you can see - this paper didn't likely come together in a pack - it was matched by thinking out of the box. Green and pink is often seen together in nature so that's where you should take your cues!

This page is a beautiful one because of all the papers we used! Matching patterns and colors is a really fun part of scrapbooking. Don't think that you have to buy prepared sets for your layouts. If you find one paper you really like walk around the paper section, holding it up to various other papers to see how they fit together. It's much like decorating a living room: rugs, pillow, curtains - you want them to complement one another without looking matchy-matchy! In the case of this layout we went with pinks and greens - a little of this and a little of that - along with some big, sparkly embellishments. The outcome is perfection!

We are seriously loving the Halloween paper around here! I'm not sure it actually gets much cuter than these little creepy-crawlies. And the simple, sparkly photo corners really make the page pop! Elaina did a great thing on this page by adding removable tags, which are great for journaling. Just think - someday someone will pull out those tags and read a cute story about the pictures on this page! Think of them as a hidden treasure for future generations. Isn't this a gorgeous page? Elaina wasn't sure how it would turn out when she started, but the more she added the more beautiful it "grew" - pun intended! Do something fun; take a picture; put it here to remember it always! This page has some great paper - especially the extra-heavy glitter cardstock. We love using this paper because it really makes a page feel special! Plus, the ribbon is a nice touch. Make sure that if you put ribbon over your card stock that you don't tack it down all the way across. You want to be able to slide your picture behind it, and the overlay effect is a nice touch when the page is complete!

Spooky Ghosts

In newspaper and magazine design there is a technique, if you will, called using your white space. It's basically leaving part of the page plain so that the elements can breathe. (On that same note, however, you don't want to "trap" your white space - it shouldn't be in the middle of several items; it should always have a border to let it seem open.) This layout achieves that quote-unquote white space (on the left.) But it also shows off the cute spiderweb on the background paper that Elaina chose. The creepy crawly spiders are embellished with rhinestones to make them a bit more important. Et voila. A simple yet striking layout!

Pumpkin-Patch season is in full swing! Have you been? Are you going? Are you as excited as WE are? It's such a fantastic photo op - not only is the backdrop fantastic, but everyone is SO happy to be there! The kids are especially excited because they know what's right around the corner - CANDY! Isn't this a sweet layout? We've used this background paper (with the words) many times, and it's always a big hit. Pages for little ones are so fun to make, especially because there are so many embellishments to choose from! It would be great to make a total pastel page, but this bright pink paper really makes things pop off the page. I especially love the photo corners, which we make with a punch (they make it super easy!) Punches can be expensive, but we say buy ones that you can use again and again - like this corner-maker - and you'll definitely get your money's worth.

Crisp and Cool

Ahhh, the crisp and cool mornings of fall have finally arrived! This layout screams fall with its autumnal color scheme. Elaina did a great job of embellishing it with just enough special touches without going overboard. My favorite part has to be the paperclip swirls - they can be hard to work with because they bend the paper you apply them to. They work well here because they're placed here and there on layered card stock. So cute!

This paper is one of those attempts to "use what you have instead of buying anything new." The paper is obviously adorable, and it's a pack of Martha Stewart paper bought off ebay at a total steal. I love how it all coordinates, and it screams out for kid pictures! We embellished the page with flowers, and then we added rhinestones to them for even more sparkle! (You know how we feel about sparkle!) Why do I always feel the urge to wave Jazz Hands when I say sparkle!?

It's great to scrapbook with someone so that you can get an external perspective on your work. Elaina and I tend to turn embellishments this way and that way, but never the same way. Trick or Treat!

One more day until October - the season of spirits is upon us! Halloween pages are among our best sellers - because it's SUCH a fabulous opportunity for photographs! No matter how old we are there are pics of us dressed up as ghosts, goblins and everything in between! Moms love Halloween. We went beyond the typical black and orange theme with this paper - the skulls called out for green and purple! This glitter cardstock is AWESOME. It can be pricey so always check for sales on it and stock up! Sparkle brings instant wow-factor to scrapbook pages. And also? The skulls were adorable on their own, but Elaina had the foresight to buy a big bag of oogly-googly eyes, which really made this paper pop! Sure, skulls are frightening, but add some cute eyes and you've got a layout set for any age Trick-or-Treater!

This paper is from a package of Martha Stewart paper found for a steal on eBay. Have you ever looked for or bought scrapbook supplies on eBay? You can find great deals on there - especially on Martha's products, which are great but very expensive. We love that this paper is pink and super-cute, but it's also got some edge to it because of the motif. It's perfect for every little girl, whether she's a princess or not. (Even if she's a tomboy we bet she's got a princess in her dying to get out!)

Look at that fancy paper! (And hi! You can see me - Abby - holding the camera.) Elaina had been dying to break out the big guns - i.e. the paper that costs so much you don't want to use it once you buy it. It's great on this page, however. Even the paper can tell a story: Think bright-eyed kids on their first day of school! The shiny paper is reminiscent of their beautiful, bright faces. This is a heavily colored page, but it's perfect for what it is - a place to put pictures of your kids. And if you're planning ahead - try some posed black and whites - they would set off this colorful background perfectly.

This layout is definitely one of our favorites; it was Elaina's creation and she had a hard time letting go of it! But that's what's so great about scrapbooking - every page becomes a pattern so if you want to remake it, no problem! This page has some inking and a few embellishments, but overall it's the paper that really makes it sing. Sometimes when you're shopping for supplies you may think "Yikes! That paper is so expensive!" But if you splurge - and make a really great layout - you can skip embellishing it with a lot of extras, which keeps the cost down. So every once in a while spring for that cute paper! You'll be glad you did.

Getting Back to Nature (Sold!)

It's nothing new to put silk flowers on a layout. Everybody does it, and it's a great effect for an otherwise flat layout. The flowers give dimension, and they can supply a pop of color in an area of the layout that may be lacking excitement. But get creative with your flowers! Try layering different-sized, complimentary colors. Take your cues from nature - there's a reason Lily Pulitzer likes pink and green fabric - she took it straight from God's paintbrush! Also try putting the flowers together with brads (which will also help you attach the flowers to your pages.) Rhinestones, stickers, thread - it all makes the flowers even more special than when you started.

Branching Out (SOLD)

Embellishing pages can often be the hardest part of scrapbooking. If you're like us you own all of these cute bells and whistles, but when it comes time to put them on the page you're at a loss. Title? Check. Great layout? Check. Something to make the page special? Working on it, is what we often say. I've had those cute, round paper clips forEVER, and it's been really hard to figure out the best way to use them. We've found that they work best on cardstock, because they really need to be placed on sturdy paper to keep the paper from bending. They look great on this page, and they definitely add a little something-something to the layout!

Scrapbooking is really moving beyond the book these days. It's being found in the card aisle, in the gift aisle, and with layouts like this one it could be found in the infant aisle! Sometimes it's that one little detail that really matters. And on this page? It's that little frog on the bottom right that really jumps out at you! (Pun intended. *Snort*.) Sugar and Spice (SOLD)

"Sugar and spice and everything nice; that's what little girls are made of!"

Isn't this an adorable layout? The cupcake paper is just too cute, and the buttons are the perfect touches, but what really stands out here is the title. There's glitter! That's because we used glittered chipboard letters for "Sugar", which is the perfect way to set off the word and make it pop. Titles can be difficult, and it's not always easy to know what size and shape to make your words. Chipboard is an easy way to bring some dimension and some pizazz to your page, but you have to be careful not to go overboard. Mixing up the mediums for this title really worked - plus the glitter does make you think of sugar; and the funky brown letters do make you think of spice! Scrapbooking is an art, and your choice of mediums makes all the difference! This page is proof.

What is it that draws us to the shore? The sun? The sand? The waves? A little of all three, I'd imagine. It's the smells, the sounds, and the textures that attract us. This layout is reminiscent of it all! A great way to pull in several elements of the beach is to layer your paper and create a really interesting layout. Here we have fun sea animals, but we also have the blue and green of the ocean, and the curves of the layered paper are reminders of gentle waves.

Summer days are in full swing! It's time to get outside and enjoy the sun, sand and sea!

The detailing on this paper - and layout - are incredible. Again, ink has helped add depth to the layers of the layout, but the most important thing? The bees! Not only are there bees on the paper, but there are bees added to it! They look like they're about to crawl off the paper and fly right into the sky. How did we achieve this look? With pop dots. They are an incredible tool for adding dimension to your layouts. Try putting them behind letters, picture frames and even rhinestones.

They go from a cluster of grapes to big kids who know exactly what they're doing on the field, and we've been taking photos of them from the beginning! Wouldn't this page be cute with a picture of your child at their first game, and one at their game now? (Don't blame us if the difference makes you tear up a bit! My favorite part of this layout has to be the title: I can picture adorable photographs of kids pretending to be Hot Stuff! I also love how Elaina used different fonts on each page - doing so really makes the words stand out. Titles are often the hardest part of the layout process for us. We have to stop and think: What does the paper express? What kind of photos would look cute here? Where can we put the words? Getting creative with size and shape can really help you bring an interesting look to a page. Try switching up sizes and shapes on your next layout!

Say Cheese! (SOLD!)

Could this adorable bird paper BE any cuter? We think not! Any kid would be sure to smile when they see where their pictures are going to live! The brightness of this layout really reminds us of elementary school - and school pictures! Remember those goofy smiles we made as kids when were told to "Say Cheese!" Those pictures - silly as they were - are memories we don't want to forget with our own kids. And THIS is the layout to help us remember them!

This some of the most precious paper: the fonts are gorgeous and the soft, pastel colors are so lovely! It's also been a very popular paper in our shop, and we've had fun coming up with various layouts using the same product. This page is definitely made for little girls, but it has depth, which really makes it stand out. Rounding the edges of the paper then inking it gives it an extra-special touch and makes the layout look very luxurious. If you want your layouts to stand out consider trying ink or chalk on the edges!

Live. Laugh. Love. (SOLD)

Isn't this a beautiful layout? Elaina has been working hard to build new scraps and get our inventory back up. We've had a great past couple of months, and our goal of 100 sales by our shop anniversary is quickly coming to fruition!

Sometimes it's hard to use paper that has pre-printed designs in the corner, but we've been pushing ourselves to work with it because it's often so beautiful - just like this gorgeous black paper. With a bit of careful paper piecing and a bit of embellishment these great papers can truly come alive. Elaina was very creative with where and how she placed the title of this layout: Live, Laugh, Love. It's beautiful, and as we suggest to buyers, this layout would be only more gorgeous with the addition of your black and white photos!
